It's storytelling with a purpose.
One of our current productions is Shadow's Edge, by our non-profit organization Digging Deep. Shadow’s Edge a serious game designed build resilience in teens with severe health challenges. In a mysterious 3D world, the players complete journaling and artistic quests based on the principles of narrative therapy. We worked with psychologists, game designers, and teens to transform a seeming chore into something engaging and fun. Shadow’s Edge makes gaming the new pill and gives patients a voice that illness or disability has otherwise taken away.

How does digitization shape your/her career?
My career is built on digital. I started my tech career testing, then coding digital systems for Fortune 500 companies, growing into customer facing roles for companies like Compaq, HP and Microsoft. During that time, I started mentoring young entrepreneurs that aim to apply digital solutions to create change in the world.
To push the envelope, I invested in a start-up with the mission of improving quality of life through technology in urban developments, the now award-winning software company Living PlanIT.
Over the years, I developed a keen interest in the storytelling potential technology offers in getting messages across digitally and to a broader audience. Discovering my creative side through that process, I now focus my 'techspertise' on content I am passionate about for impact messaging in entertainment and gaming.
My team builds and uses digital media to educate, raise awareness for social change. I help young digital natives find their narrative through gameplay, digital self-expression and connecting with others.
Digital not only influences my career choices, but is infused in my company, and is the basis for my livelyhood. More than that, I am able to find balance in life, family, friends and vocation through digital.
What makes you/her a digital female leader?
I am a writer and award-winning technology entrepreneur & game producer and I am fondly known by my peers as a ‘Techspert’. As a pioneer in designing and producing digital tools for teens with health challenges, I have inspired many young teens to build resilience and overcome health challenges through playing Shadow's Edge, our free mobile game for teens and young adults with mental or physical health challenges such as cancer, diabetes or depresion.
I have used my experience with my chronic illness to lead by example and create the game based on narrative therapy, usesing digital storytelling to help promote changes in perspective, enable distance from pain or trauma, and identify skills and strategies for managing your life with the illness.
I believe that creating digital products like games can make serious messages more palatable for young people by allowing them to experiment and practice in judgement free environment, to build confidence and give them the tools that translates that into their real lives.
During my career I was lucky to find great mentors and I do my best every day to ensure that I give back by paying it forward to our future female digital leaders and help them find their voice, their passion and their inner ninja to make their dreams happen. With this our non-profit project and other future projects, I hope to inspire young digital females to dare to reinvent themselves with the help of technology, as I did.
